About Me
Hello, my name is Sarah Chang! I'm an artist from Texas studying Illustration for Entertainment at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
I discovered the joys of drawing through reading a copious amount of novels when I was younger. I've read hundreds of books, mostly fantasy or action. Each time I imagined the scenes playing out in the text, I thought, "What would that look like?" I also have a passion for taking an absurd amount of pictures on my phone to use as references later. Thus, my journey as a creative is inspired by both the real and the imagined.
Creative Inspirations
Mythology
My favorite genre of fantasy stems from traditional myths and classic literature. From the Scandinavian Norse deities to the Japanese yokai, H.P. Lovecraft to the Grimms' Fairy Tales.
Culture
Studying cultures from around the world goes hand in hand with reading mythology. Researching history is akin to seeing a snapshot of the past and following the afterimages to the modern age.
Photography
A large part of my work comes from natural muses, from explosions of flora and fauna to intricate architectural designs. Over the years, I've amassed a library of first-hand resources to draw from.
